Quicksburg Friday night, Riverheads and Stonewall

Riverheads and Stonewall Jackson opened Shenandoah District boys basketball in Quicksburg Friday night, Jan. 9. The Gladiators jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter behind Adam Ritter (6 points) and Lyndon Humphries (5 points).

In the second quarter, Stonewall did score 13 points behind David Scott with 6 points. Gladiator Cody Montgomery scored 10 points during the quarter and Riverheads (5-6, 1-0) went in at the half leading 34-22.

After falling behind by 15 points in the second half, the Generals (0-8, 0-1) made a furious comeback behind reserve Kullen Biller and Scott. The Generals connected on seven 3-pointers in the second half cutting the lead to 6 points with three minutes left.

However, Riverheads was able to make their free throws and made two easy lay-ups for the final margin of 63-52.

The Gladiators were led by Montgomery with 17 points. Humphries and Ritter added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Stonewall was led by senior Scott with 15 points. Kyle Wilson and Nick Trent added 9 and 8 points, respectively.
