If it hadn’t been for the Falcon turnovers and the foot of junior kicker Graham Sharples, the Falcons would have made the score different on when the teams met Oct. 10 at Central.
Handley scored on their opening drive using 15 plays and a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Geremi Long. The PAT by Sharples was good for a 7-0 lead.
The second quarter belonged to Sharples as he booted field goals of 43, 28 and 31 yards, giving the Judges a 16-0 lead at the half.
Neither offense was able to score in the third quarter. Handley (5-1, 3-0) executed a 9-play drive in the fourth quarter capped by a 33-yard touchdown pass from Long to Vance Washington. The PAT was good and Handley led 23-0.
With 8:13 left in the game, Central (1-6, 0-4) took the kickoff and drove 80 yards on 17 plays for their lone touchdown by junior running back Derek Copenhaver’s 1-yard run. The 2-point conversion was no good and the score remained 23-6 for the rest of the game.
Handley was led by Jeremiah Wilson and Timar McFarlane with a combined 104 yards rushing. Sharples accounted for 11 of the Judges points on three field goals and 2 PATs.
Matt Sherfey led the Falcons with the 163 yards passing. JJ Armentrout had five catches for 79 yards and Thomas Cooper had four catches for 48 yards.
Handley plays Millbrook this Saturday and the Falcons travel to Warren County on Friday night.
